Break the Chains of Addiction

What is the ministry of Reformers Unanimous?

Reformers Unanimous is a Christ-centered addictions program that directs the intemperate (undisciplined) believer, and the unregenerate to God's support
group... the local church.

What exactly does that mean?

We believe that God designed His local church to be a support group for those who are hurting. Whether it's His child in need of restoration, or an addict who is hopelessly lost and without Christ, the Church is God's instrument for support.

The lost and found can find or cultivate a personal relationship with Christ at the local church.

They can find emotional support by those who fulfill the law of Christ by bearing these folks' burdens at the local church.

They can find opportunities to worship and to serve at the local church, which will help replace the large amounts of time that were once given over to satan.

Their financial condition can be improved by learning the Biblical truths of giving to the local church.

And at church, they can establish frienships, which will help provide a way of escape from their temptation.

How does this program differ from other Christian recovery programs?

Well, first of all, there's no such thing as "Christian recovery". Christians are recovered! The Truth makes us free! Christian victory in our lives is something each of us, as Christians, search to attain. The more we yield to the Spirit's leading, the more victory we experience.

The same with a person who visits our program. Once they accept Christ, they are in the same boat as the rest of us... a saved sinner seeking to become more like Christ. Their besetting sins are no more distasteful to God than anyone else's sin.

How and why does the curriculum work?

It's a very simple and Biblical approach. First, it gets students in the Bible. They have to READ portions of the Bible. They have to MEMORIZE certain verses in the Bible. And they are required to HEAR the Bible (by attending services, in addition to the regular RU meetings).

The Holy Spirit will use the Word of God to discern and reveal the student's thoughts. Once God changes the way we think, He then changes the way we act.

How do you motivate the students to participate in the program?

We operate on an awards-based system, similar to the one God created for those who obey Him. In 1 Corinthians, we see that if we build things of eternal value on our God-given foundation (Christ Jesus), then we shall receive a reward.

After leading the students to Christ in the beginning books, we then start to reward each student as they progress through the different levels of the program. Each level is a building block of eternal value.

Who can participate in this program?

Our classes are made up of...

- People from our church, who have stubborn habits or addictions

- Working class men and women, lives falling apart because of substance abuse

- People who are battling depression, eating disorders, over-spending

- Folks who are addicted to gambling, pornography

- People in secular programs, court-ordered programs

- Homeless people are also encouraged to attend

No matter what walk of life you may be on, if you're struggling with addictions and/or strongholds, RU can help!

From anything and everything that isn't of Him, Christ wants us to be set free! And that's our goal here.
